2. Open your trust account. The funds you contribute are placed in your own account under your name.
   
3. Earn interest. The balance grows over time, helping to offset inflation.
   
4. Receive account statements. You’ll receive regular statements directly from the NJSFDA.
   
5. Funds are released when needed. At the time of need, the funds are paid directly to the funeral home to cover the arrangements you selected.
   

If you move or change funeral homes, your account can be transferred anywhere in or outside of New Jersey.

The NJ Prepaid Funeral Trust Fund is managed by the New Jersey State Funeral Directors Association and operates under strict state regulations to ensure safety, transparency, and accountability.

• Funds are held in trust, not by the funeral home.

If you or a loved one expect to apply for Medicaid or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), a prepaid funeral account can be an important part of the planning process.

• You may choose to make your account irrevocable, which means it cannot be canceled or refunded.
  
• Once irrevocable, these funds are not counted as an asset for Medicaid or SSI eligibility.
  
• The account must be used solely for funeral and burial expenses.
